Nelson Commits to East Carolina

The Pirates picked up another verbal football commitment on Thursday when High Point Central star, Ja-Quane Nelson made his decision to become a Pirate.

He announced his pledge via Twitter on Thursday...

Blessed and proud to say that I am officially verbally committed to East Carolina University! #GoPirates 🤘🏾☠️

The 6-3, 260 pounder found his way into the offensive backfield for nine sacks in 2015 and adds to an already growing East Carolina lineup that includes ten players from North Carolina including defensive end in Taijh Alston out of Union Pines in Cameron, North Carolina.

Nelson also holds offers from Charlotte and Hampton and was receiving some interest from Maryland, North Carolina and N.C. State.

Pirate defensive backs coach Rick Smith along with defensive line coach Deke Adams handled Nelson's recruitment for East Carolina.

Nelson is ECU's 15th commitment for the Pirate class of 2017. He is the second commitment in the last 24 hours after Western Alamance running back Darius Pinnix II made his pledge Wednesday night.
