With the win the Owls improve to 7-7 on the season and even the weekend series, while the Pirates fall to 11-4.Otto (2-1) picked up the win in relief working 3.1 scoreless frames with four strikeouts. Starter Blake Fox allowed a pair of runs (both earned) on three hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in 5.2 innings.Sam Lanier (0-1) suffered the loss surrendering two runs (both earned) on two hits in two-thirds of an inning. Jacob Wolfe started his fourth game of the season giving up two runs (both earned) on five hits with a walk and strikeout in 4.2 innings. Evan Voliva (0.2 IP, 2 Rs), Chris Holba (0.2 IP, 1 R) and Denny Brady (1.1 IP) worked the final 2.2 innings.All nine of the Owls starters collected at least one hit and were led by Dominic DiCaprio, Andrew Dunlap and Ford Proctor, who each had two base knocks on the day. Dunlap drove in three runs on the afternoon, while four others had an RBI.ECU was limited to a season-low four hits in the contest. Parker Lamm, who saw his 13-game hit streak come to an end Friday night, recorded his fifth multi-hit game of the year going 2-for-4 with a run scored. Travis Watkins belted his first home run of the season (fourth career) with a solo shot in the fourth inning.With the score knotted at two-all going to the bottom of the sixth, Rice plated four runs on four hits (all singles) and a walk catapulting the Owls to a 6-2 lead. DiCaprio and Proctor laced consecutive singles, which was followed by Dayne Wunderlich’s fielder’s choice. With runners on the corners, ECU went to the pen and brought in Voliva, who immediately issued a bases loaded walk to Ryan Chandler. Dunlap singled to left field plating Kendal Jefferies (pinch runner) and Wunderlich. Connor Teykl continued the inning with an RBI single and Charlie Warren used a sac fly to score the final run of the inning.DiCaprio gave Rice and early 1-0 lead in the first inning doubling home Warren from second, who led off with a single up the middle.Rice pushed across another run in the second extending its lead to two, 2-0. Chandler doubled to left center with one out and came around to score on Dunlap’s double to left center.Watkins pulled the Pirates within one, 2-1, on his first home run of the season sending a shot over the left field wall to start the fourth frame.ECU tied the game at two-all on Kirk Morgan’s fourth RBI of the series. Lamm singled up the middle to get things going and took second on Charlie Yorgen’s sac bunt. Watkins followed with a walk and both runners advanced a base on a double-steal.
