ECU Takes Game Three at Tulane

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Parker Lamm drove in a career-best three runs on four hits, while Jacob Wolfe allowed three runs in 7.2 innings as No. 16 East Carolina took game three of the American Athletic Conference weekend series from No. 27 Tulane, 7-3, at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Pirates improve to 21-11 overall and 3-3 in league play, while the Green Wave falls to 21-10, 3-2.

Wolfe (4-3) gave up the three runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and no walks for his sixth quality start of the season. Sam Lanier recorded a strikeout, while Joe Ingle tossed a scoreless ninth striking out the side.

Alex Massey (3-3) suffered the loss surrendering four runs (all earned) on nine hits with two walks and two strikeouts in 5.1 innings. Tulane used four hurlers out of the bullpen getting outings from Dan Rankin (0.1 IP, 2 Rs), Sam Bjorngjeld (1.1 IP, 1 K), Tim Yandel (1.1 IP, 1 R) and Trevor Simms (0.2 IP, 1 K).

The Pirates pounded out double-digit hits for the second time this weekend recording 13 on the day. Lamm led ECU going 4-for-5 with three RBI, while Bryce Harman and Dwanya Williams-Sutton had two hits apiece. Garrett Brooks, Eric Tyler and Williams-Sutton each drove in a run in the contest.

Lex Kaplen led the Green Wave with three hits, while four other had one each. Grant Brown and Jake Rogers each drove in a run, coming via the long ball.

How It Happened:ECU blew the game open with a five-run sixth inning making it a 6-1 ball game. With one out, the Pirates got three consecutive hits from Harman (single), Watkins (single) and Brooks (RBI double), which broke a one-all tie. Brown kept the inning going reaching on a fielder’s choice where Watkins was thrown out at the plate. Williams-Sutton had an RBI single to right that plated Brooks and Lamm laced a two-RBI base knock to right scoring Brown and Williams-Sutton. ECU’s final run came when Yorgen scored on a Rankin wild pitch.

Rogers’ fourth home run of the season (a shot to left field) staked Tulane to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.

ECU tied the game at one-all on Lamm’s RBI single that plated Turner Brown in the top of the fifth. Brown reached on an infield single with one out and took second on Dwanya Williams-Sutton base knock through the right side. Lamm ripped a single to left field snapping the Pirates 15-inning scoring drought on the weekend scoring Brown.

Grant Brown’s pinch hit home run in the seventh inning pulled Tulane within four, 6-2.

ECU added a run in the ninth on Tyler’s RBI double to left field that scored Wesley Phillips from first base for a 7-3 lead.

Up Next:ECU will continue its eight-game road trip on Tuesday, April 12 when it travels to UNC Wilmington for a 6 p.m. (ET) midweek matchup.
