TUSCON, Ariz. – Less than a week after helping East Carolina advance to its fourth super regional in program history, Dwanya Williams-Sutton was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America Team by Collegiate Baseball, the publication announced Wednesday.

In his rookie season with the Pirates, Williams-Sutton was a First-Team All-American Athletic Conference selection after leading the league in batting average, slugging percentage and on-base percentage. The Wilson, N.C. native became the first Pirate since Brian Cavanaugh to lead a conference in batting average (.382) back in 2005 when ECU was a member of Conference USA.

The freshman outfielder has started 52 of 53 games, belted five home runs, laced four triples and 11 doubles (20 extra base hits), while scoring 29 runs, driving in 27 and swiping 7 of 12 bases. Williams-Sutton, who is currently batting .359 on the season, earned league player-of-the-week honors twice (Feb. 29 and May 23) and tallied six game-winning RBI with four coming in league play.

Williams-Sutton is the 14th Freshman All-America selection in school history and second under head coach Cliff Godwin. Last year Joe Ingle was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-America squad.

The Pirates (37-21-1) are in Lubbock, Texas preparing for its super regional match-up with No. 5 National Seed Texas, Tech (44-17), which begins play on Friday, June 10 at 8 p.m. (ET) from Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
